Wie Call of Duty zegt, zegt Infinity Ward. Zo simpel is het. Vijf jaar geleden begon de Amerikaanse ontwikkelaarsstudio aan een nieuw avondtuur, wat later resulteerde in een groot succes. Door Call of Duty is Infinity Ward inmiddels een erkende studio en heeft het tientallen prijzen in ontvangst mogen nemen. We namen een kijkje in de geschiedenis van Infinity Ward… Infinity Ward is vijf jaar geleden opgezet door een team van tweeëntwintig overgestapte medewerkers van 2015 Studios (Electronic Arts) die eerder werkte aan Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. In 2003 sloot de ontwikkelaarsstudio een contract af met uitgever Activision en bracht het in de herfst van datzelfde jaar de nieuwe fist-person shooter Call of Duty uit. Deze PC-game speelt net als Allied Assault zich af in de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Het werd gelijk een succes: de game mocht maar liefst 127 internationale prijzen in ontvangst nemen. Na deze debuuttitel brengt Infinity Ward in 2005 het tweede deel van de serie op de markt. Call of Duty 2 stond net als zijn voorganger in de schijnwerpers en komt naast de PC ook voor de next-gen console Xbox360 uit. Hoewel het Tweede Wereldoorlog genre diep geworteld in de Call of Duty serie zat, brengt de ontwikkelaar dit jaar toch een verandering door. Met Call of Duty 4 slaat Infinity Ward een nieuwe hoofdstuk open en begeeft het zich in de moderne oorlogvoering. Call of Duty staat al vanaf het begin onder toezicht van president Grant Collier (ook zijn aard van Medal of Honor) en staan onder andere Vince Zampella en Jason West aan het roer. Met momenteel een dik aangesterkt team (met meer dan 100 werknemers!), is Infinity Ward uitgegroeid tot een erkende studio en heeft een status gekregen als PC-ontwikkelaar. Zo zijn alle titels van de Call of Duty serie voor de PC verschenen en heeft het naar eigen zeggen ook geen ''enkele reden om niet voor de PC te gaan ontwikkelen.'' Daarnaastontwikkelt Infinity Ward naast de PC ook voor de Xbox360 en Playstation 3. |
