Gisteren is een preview verschenen op USA Today over Call of Duty: Black Ops. Ze hebben de kans gekregen om een missie, WMD genaamd, te spelen en er is bevestigd dat Black Ops zich zal afspelen tijdens de Koude Oorlog. 1968 is een van de data die naar ons toe werd geworpen, echter wist Mark Lamia, studiohoofd van Treyarch ons te melden dat het spel een ruimere tijdspanne zal gebruiken en het in de eerste plaats de bedoeling is om een entertainment product te maken en niet één of andere saaie geschiedenisles. De reden waarom hij dit zegt? Wel, Treyarch heeft twee oorlogsveteranen ingeschakeld, met name Maj. John Plaster en Sonny Puzikas. Dat het geen saaie geschiedenisles wordt, wil natuurlijk niet zeggen dat ze het realisme uit het oog verliezen, integendeel. Verder is er bevestigd dat Black Ops op de Wii zal verschijnen en dat het spel Co-op zal bevatten, waar je met 2-4 spelers over de hele wereld de Singleplayer nog eens lichtjes kan overdoen. Maar niet gevreesd, ook een competitieve multiplayer zal inbegrepen zijn. Ten slotte is er ook nog wat informatie vrijgegeven over de wapens, er zou blijkbaar een kruisboog in het spel inbegrepen zijn. Afwachten voor meer duidelijkheid, we houden jullie met plezier op de hoogte!

Spijtig genoeg hebben ze een grote fout gemaakt met de AUG, die zit namelijk in de missie 'WMD' (dat zich afspeelt in 1968) terwijl de AUG pas ten vroegste in 1978 in gebruik werd genomen.
Hopelijk gaan ze zo min mogelijk (tot geen) van deze fouten meer maken want zoiets maakt toch de sfeer van het spel kapot. Net zoals dat bij World at War was (het voelde een stuk minder authentiek aan). Zo had ik bijvoorbeeld ook al een moderne M4/CAR15 gezien in de trailer. Echter is het model in de trailer totaal niet relevant aan de tijdsperiode (Vietnam oorlog).
Car 15/XM-177 met 'carry handle' zou normaal zijn. Een CAR15/M4 met RAIL klopt totaal niet. |

Dit vond ik ook al vreemd endacht dat het vast ergens in de jaren 80 was ofzo, maar toen las ik dit bericht op een andere site. Waar overigens ook stond dat de kruisboog van type pijl kan veranderen. In dit geval was dat van standaard pijl naar een explosieve pijl. |

Er word gezegd dat het spel in een grotere tijdspanne zal gaan afspelen. Dit is ook te zien als je de teaser van gametrailer bekijkt (slowmotion). Het kan dus goed zijn dat de AUG wel gebruikt zal worden omdat er een bepaalde missie zich afspeelt in 1978+ |

Ter verduidelijking: het wapen in de trailer leek meer op een moderne CAR15/M4 dan wat, eigenlijk logisch zou moeten zijn, een CAR15/XM-177 uit de 'Vietnam (War) Era'.
Overigens stond er expliciet in dat de missie die men had gespeeld, waar de AUG in voorkwam, zich afspeelde in 1968. M.a.w. is dit een faliekante fout spijtig genoeg.
Als laatste zou ik eraan toe willen voegen dat deze vrijdag OXM (Official Xbox Magazine, United Kingdom) af komt met een preview van Black Ops. Scans zullen waarschijnlijk zo goed als direct op het net geplaatst worden waarin hopelijk een stortvloed aan nieuwe info en screenshots op ons afkomt. En de eenentwintigste van deze maand is er een 'preview event' bij Treyarch over Black Ops. Verwacht hier ook zeker wat info en nieuws over... |
