Gelukkig zijn een aantal bekende modders, onder wie redacteurs van het gevierde BashandSlash.com, bezig met het herstellen van het oude systeem, dat zij momenteel weten te manipuleren met achtergebleven bestanden van Call of Duty 4. Overigens hebben ze ook verborgen bestanden gevonden van de console- en leanfuncties, en allerlei oude sporen van de PC-versie, die IW eenvoudigweg probeerde te verbergen.
