Veel mensen zijn na het spelen van de beta van World at War teleurgesteld vanwege het slechte geluid in het spel. Zo kun je soms je tegenstanders of medespelers moeilijk horen lopen terwijl ze zich toch tamelijk dichtbij bevinden. Volgens Treyarch komt dat door de occlusie van het geluid, een techniek die wordt toegepast in Call of Duty: World at War.  
Er zijn al heel wat klachten over de geluidsproblemen binnengekomen bij Treyarch, maar de ontwikkelaar schijnt er niet echt naar te willen luisteren. Even een citaat van wat Treyarch eergisteren vermeldde in de lijst met fixes, die we toen voor jullie vrij vertaald hadden. Jockyitch van Bashandslash.com is op zoek gegaan naar een oplossing. Hij ontdekte dat het maximaal zetten van het SFX volume en het verlagen van de overige volumes in de Option al veel scheelde. Maar hij ontdekte meer. Nadat Jockyitch alle dvars die beginnen met "snd_" had doorgelopen had hij de echte oplossing gevonden, die later bevestigd werd door Mikel Mahou op callofduty.com. Hopelijk zal Treyarch dit aanpassen in de uiteindelijke game. Als je het verschil wilt zien tussen het normale spel en de aangepaste versie (met deze sound occlusion uit), volg dan onderstaande stappen: Start de beta van Call of Duty: World at War Open de console (door op ~ te drukken) en typ:
/devmap mp_roundhouse
Hierdoor zal het spel in de developer mode geladen worden. Roundhouse kun je ook vervangen met andere mappen. Typ nu één van de twee onderstaamde commands in
/snd_losOcclusion "0"
/snd_global_attenuation "0" Ga in het spel en schiet eens met wat wapens.
